Celestia UK

Celestia UK is building the next generation of satellite communication antennas to bring very high data throughput between ground-based equipment and satellites. We are working with the European Space Agency and the UK Space Agency to develop a fully electronic scanning ground station, so no moving parts, that is capable of tracking and communicating simultaneously with multi satellites. 

The new applications of these antennas cut across numerous markets including rural broadband internet, airborne communications, autonomous transport, facilities automation, earth observation, remote healthcare and education.

We are part of the Celestia Technologies Group (CTG), an international technology group with an extensive research and development activity, that is delivering a portfolio of innovative technology solutions.  These solutions are used by our customers in the Aerospace, Defence, Telecommunications and Scientific markets.

An opportunity has come up to due to maternity leave within the team, to hire a highly motivated Interim Finance Manager with good inter-personal skills and a positive attitude.

Interim Finance Manager (maternity leave cover)

What will your job look like?

Our ideal candidate can quickly grasp the various areas of finance operations and manage competing priorities and deadlines within our small Finance team.

The position will report to the CEO and manage a team of one Assistant Finance Manager. The role will be based in our Edinburgh office at Heriot Watt Research Park.

This is a part-time role for 2-3 days per week, to cover a maternity leave period of 12-18 months.

Responsibilities

This position is evolutionary in a growing business, and the below description is indicative of the tasks required to be performed currently.

Day-to-day activities

  • Lead the Finance function, ensuring internal and external deadlines are adhered to
  • Review and approval of invoices
  • Review and approve payments
  • Review of bank reconciliations
  • Review of payroll
  • Management of small foreign subsidiary finance and finance team
  • Support the streamlining of finance operational procedures to reduce the potential for errors and minimise risk

Monthly/quarterly/annual reporting

  • Calculation of complex revenue recognition, with elements of accrued and deferred income
  • Liaison with project managers on project budgets
  • Reviewing accruals and prepayments calculations and journals
  • Review of fixed asset register
  • Review of monthly payroll
  • Review of cash flow reporting and forecast cash flow
  • Review of management accounts
  • Review of grant claim reporting
  • Lead R&D tax credit preparation and submission, in conjunction with external advisors

Other responsibilities

  • Key Senior Finance contact within the business
  • Liaison with wider Group Finance functions and Group CFO
  • Key liaison with external auditors and other external advisors
  • Determining impact of new processes, products or decisions on Finance function and acting accordingly
  • Monitor for operational problems and roadblocks, taking immediate mitigation action where possible and escalating to wider management team when required.
  • Work alongside the CEO and the Director of Operations to plan for business improvements
  • Support the CEO and other management team with ad hoc requests

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Required:

  • Professional accounting qualification desired, but qualification by experience will be considered
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience of external audits
  • Highly organised and flexible
  • Competent using MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confident and clear communicator, both written and verbally

Desired:

  • Background working within a manufacturing business
  • Experience working in an international group
  • Experience with Xero and/or ERPs
